World Bank, cannot be serious

I used to kid myself that World Bank and IMF, were for the good of the world. But, now, I know better. Expecting world Bank and IMF to pull any poor country out of poverty is like

Another Subsidy

Image
Fuel Subsidy removal, real or imaginary is ravaging our land. Today, another subsidy in a strategic part of the economy has come to town and it is Electricity subsidy. The subsidy is intended to stop power distribution companies from hiking tariffs. Make no mistake about it. Soon we will be hearing stories of how it is not real. How this and that went wrong. We are full of drama, except that the amount is about N1.6 trillion.  This is the latest subsidy in town. Before long World bank will start advising Nigeria not to waste resources by subsidizing power supply. Then our opinion leaders will join and one day, electricity tariff will be hiked. Misery will multiply and stories will start flying on how the wrong people were getting the subsidy and how the removal will reduce corruption and boost the economy.  The bottom line will be further marginalization of the poor and expectant citizens of our troubled land.

Nigerian Railway Corporation and Night travel

Image
This piece was inspired by a cartoon in a popular Nigerian Newspaper. While Ogunpa flood was giving the Olubadan jitters, NEPA was attributing low power supply to a shortage of rain. This prompted the cartoonist to warn NEPA not to let Olubadan hear their prayer for rain. In the midst of insecurity and against the backdrop of the terrorist attack on the  Abuja - Kaduna train, Nigerian Railway Corporation is mooting the idea of night travel. Soon and very soon, talk of revenue lagging behind expense will rend the air. I suggest the Nigerian Railways master day time travel in terms of meeting commuter demands especially in respect of security before jumping into the insecure waters of night travel. Definitely, I do not doubt that there will be demand for it, but the demand can neither be more than day time demand nor can it be less apprehensive of insecurity. First things first. The Nigerian Railway Corporation should address day tine security concerns properly before venturing into nig

In Tinubu's mind, Security has improved since he controversially found himself in office. Some may say, how insensitive  but
