E K Clark is back in town

Image
I may be mistaken but the events of February 25 2023 and the travesty that followed have not piqued the fancy of Chief E K Clark. For the aforementioned reason, I welcome nonagerian E K Clark back to base. At his age, E K Clark does not keep quiet whenever, he feels strongly about an event. He has written to Tinubu to call Wike to order threatening fire and brimstone. It is rather unfortunate that Chief Clark is basing his request on Democracy. Well if Chief Clark must know, Wike is one of Tinubu's advisers and he helped Tinubu win his challenged Elections. If Chief Clark had supported Tinubu then he was in the same camp with Wike, so it should be a family affair. If not, then he has woken up too late. He ought to have condemned the conduct of the Elections and the compilation of the results. Either way, the Chief is strictly on his own. On the events complained against, a look at the conduct of the elections will show that Wike did the job and expects returns.

Tinubu has done it. It is now the turn of the people to show him that he is not bigger than Nigeria. He has defied his party. Remember the

When Tinubu demands high ethical standards.

For those who watched Tinubu demand high ethical standards of newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners, isn't this enough ground to ensure that election petitions are disposed of before swearing in?

Time isn't Tinubu's problem

I understand that Tinubu is racing against time to acquit himself before Nigerians. This is unfortunate. It is said that when

Backward Bending Leaders

Image
It was in High School, I learnt about the backward bending Supply Curve. Ordinarily the Law of Supply in Economics states that the higher, the price, the higher the Supply. But it was said that among workers in Tea plantations, in East Africa, it was found that the more pay they got the less work they did as a result of marrying more wives. For exploiters, this could be an excuse to pay workers less. In Nigeria, our leaders are celebrating a drop in the demand for fuel. It should be worrisome. If this were because of alternative Energy, it would be excusable but no. It is because of inability to purchase fuel. To celebrate it is to wish for a return to the days before fuel and automobiles were in use. Maybe Government officials should state that trekking is good for the health but what of man hours lost? If it is good for the health, is it good for service delivery? When workers walk long distances they are bound to be tired, work less and sleep more. In these days of falling Naira,

Our Universities of Agriculture and the quest for food security

Image
Why set up a University of Agriculture and not reap the benefit? I have been asking myself this question. Food to all intents and purposes is expensive in Nigeria. What makes it worse is that unlike Joseph in Pharaoh's Egypt, in times of plenty we sell cheap and waste food to go hungry subsequently. Even in high school economics, students are taught about silos and storage but in Nigeria, they remain textbook ideas. Universities of Agriculture are supposed to be specialist institutions but I understand host communities usually push for more in terms of comprehensive Universities. Furthermore, I understand that agriculture as a course is very unpopular among students. Shall we bring our colonial masters to teach us what to do? There is no food. You set up a University of Agriculture, host communities say no and students refuse to enrol for agriculture. As a student, I recall that students of Education were given bursaries. For our food situation, instead of Central Bank of Nigeria,
