Victor Osimhen needs a guide
Robinho of Brazil once called Pele, mad, for suggesting that the Brazilian team in Robinho's time play with four strikers.
This same Robinho who in his hey days
went to Real Madrid on a huge transfer said in that world cup year that should Brazil win the world cup, he would celebrate with marathon sex.In the end, Robinho did not win the world cup and today, his records are a far cry from Pele's record.
In my early days of watching and following football, I used to wonder why teams with matches at hand are graded based on points won irrespective of number of matches played and not average points.
Points won are actual points and average points are points won divided by number of matches played.
Thus a team that has played more matches will have a lower average than the team with less matches.
However, experience has shown that assumptions alone do not win points but many factors come into play.
The essence of what I am saying is that assumption is different from reality.
Your foundation may determine your tomorrow but let tomorrow come before you rank yourself ahead of your seniors.
You may get married before your elder but it does not follow that your first child will be older than his.
Osimhen today is the reigning African footballer of the year. He is not the first Nigerian to be so ranked. He has to learn to give honour to whom it is due.
With consternation I watched him call out Victor Ikpeba for daring to suggest he should avoid bicycle kicks.
Victor Ikpeba played in France and the world cup. Victor Osimhen may yet get there but it is not certain.
In football, the number of goals scored counts more than the beauty of the goals.
Some people think penalties are easy goals but how come some players are scared of it and few players if any have a 100% record in scoring penalties?
At age 19 David De Gea transferred to Manchester United and it became public knowledge he had a social problem that was quickly nibbed at the bud and it never happened again.
Victor Osimhen needs a guide lest his talent goes to waste. His recent spat with Finidi George needed not be handled the way, he approached it.
Some teams will not touch, with a long pole, a player with a poor public image.
But if he had not express his view Nigerians may think it's out of pride he didn't play those matches so there are two sides to this matter
ReplyDeleteFinidi's view was in private and Osimhen's views were in public
