The unknown side of June 12

In Literature, we were taught that to know a person's character, you consider three things: What the person does, what the person says and what

people say about the person.

The truth about June 12, which the Evil Genius has refused to own up to, is that he was not ready to hand over. Even one of his acolytes, said this much, that his mistake was to have given a hand over date.

Professor Humphrey Nwosu was the teal mistake not a hand over date.

Eme Awa, a professor was actually, Humphrey Nwosu's teacher.

Eme Awa was too strict and therefore unsuitable for the merry go round, the Evil Genius wanted and so, he had to go.

I laugh at those who suggested Humphrey Nwosu. The funny part of the saga which the Evil Genius would be regretting is that Nwosu was actually by the subsisting Decree too young at 47, to succeed his teacher.

Trust the Military , without much ado, the Decree was amended to read a minimum age of 45 instead of 50.

Why was Nwosu a mistake? He was my teacher. One of two persons who taught me Introduction to Political Science at University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1978/1979.

It was the period before the 2nd Republic and Obj's regime had forbidden Lecturers from discussing Politics. For the apostles of Military rule, can you beat that?

The guilty they say, are afraid. Then Nwosu, was not a Professor, his colleague teaching the course with him, wasn't too.

While Nwosu who was purely a lecturer had no difficulty discussing and teaching Politics, his colleague who was in the Nigerian People's Party, was boring  us with the excuse that the government had forbidden teachers from discussing Politics.

How do you teach Political Science without discussing Politics?

Nwosu made his class very lively to the joy of his students.

From his lessons, I was able to picture Intelligence and ambition.

He, I learnt made First Class in Political Science and his style of teaching was very lively and encouraging.

His candour and Intelligence made it difficult to associate him with an opaque Election.

As a person, I found his choice of Option A 4, objectionable to the extent that it robs choice of secrecy but to dine with the Devil , you use a long spoon.

I doubt if Humphrey Nwosu would have recommended option A 4 to his students but somehow, he was on a mission.

It was the case of the Bull and the Matador.

If there is any lesson for Obi in Option A4, and June 12 1993 Elections, it is that elections need proper structures .

If the Labour Party had enough Polling agents with copies of election results from the Polling Units, INEC would have had no leg room to declare strange figures.

Luckily for Nwosu and SDP, there were just two paries abd the results were as clear as daylight and this rattled the Military.

Personally, I believe, my teacher was out to make a name and he tried all he could including a stone age method of election to disguise that fact.

Well he succeeded but painfully for me, I doubt if he is today enjoying the outcome.
