My problem with subsidy!

Subsidy is never supposed to be never ending. In Nigeria, it is never

ending. One thing is clear. To make money by Nigerian Governments is easy. The difficult part is to account for it.

Economics teaches that when you increase the price of essential commodities like Petrol, more money is made because, invariably people still buy them.

Subsidy is supposed to have a percentage just like discount but because, our Nigerian subsidy is shady, no percentages are attached.

If a product costs N1000 and you pay, N600 for it, the subsidy is N400.

In Nigeria, each time government wants more money from Petrol, you hear of subsidy.

Today, the story is that those who have been collecting the subsidy are difficult to find.

Can you imagine paying trillions to unknown people?

For too long have our Governments been taking us for a ride.

Tinubu is supposed to be a populist. Today his Government is anti people.

Could he be targeting making enough money to cover election expenses?

In Lagos, as Governor, he was not anti people. What has changed?

  1. Well said as usual. My main worry is the fact that the government is not saying anything about investigating the subsidy scam where we spent a lot. If we do not investigate this and bring the offenders to book, how do we convince the citizens to trust the palliatives been pushed out will not go the way of the subsidy, stollen by those saddled with the responsibility and not held accountable.
