He may be bad but he is my person

The Japa culture is because, we want a better life made possible by people not unlike us.

However, our modus operandi is that

the transgressor, wary or not is my person.

Two wrongs they say do not make a right. When a person does a wrong, wary or not, it is wrong. His being a relation does not make what is wrong, right.

To build our country, we need to take tough decisions. Among the decisions is call a spade a spade without minding whose ox is gored.

We are afflicted by ' my person' syndrome and 'big man' syndrome. I am amazed at the rate at which highly placed individuals in advanced countries are made to face the law not minding their status.

Corruption is old in Nigeria and gets worse with age like a festering sore. I recall an incident involving a Federal Minister under Yakubu Gowon who was accused of corruption for using an official note pad for private correspondence.

What he did was wrong but compared to the situation today, it is almost a non issue.

To make our country right we have to up our game, do things the right way not minding affiliations and gravity.

For every offence there has to be an appropriate sanction with the law blind and applicable to all and sundry.
