When Good is not so Good

Prisoners, the Minister of the Interior says are to be released. In itself it is very good but coming at this time, it is, a not so good, idea.

At the risk of sounding insensitive, let

me clarify my stance.

Insecurity is at all time high. Checking it avidly means more prisoners taken but the reverse is now the case.

With the current inflationary trend, some prisoners may well prefer to commit another offence in order to be sent back.

Come to think of it, majority of those unfortunate to be behind bars are awaiting trial. How sad.

For this gesture not to backfire, it has to be done with all sense of responsibility. Those awaiting trial should form the bulk of those to be released.

I am not unaware of the process of granting pardon to those of exceptionally good conduct.

Should the process become a money making venture, then the people in charge should prepare to replace those they wrongfully release, swapping places with the deserving inmates.

To turn this exercise into an avenue to release terrorists is a no no. The world is watching.
