Obasanjo: what manner of man?

At 85, OBJ is quite active. Few men have been as lucky as the, Abeokuta,   born Army General and two time Head of Government. First as a Military man and next as a civilian.

One thing that stands Obj out among his peers is his sense of patriotism.

OBJ is not only patriotic, he has boundless vision.

At his age, he should be relaxing at home but no, he has been neck deep in the Political future of Nigeria.

I recall during the build up to the 1999 Presidential Elections, I had rooted for him remembering that in my final year in Secondary school in 1977, he had reduced Tuition fees in Secondary schools nationwide to N10.

He was that kind of man. I also recall a story a school mate told me in the University. A military Governor had locked up an overzealous student on account of something he said and caused to be published on OBJ and as the story went, OBJ sent a message to the Governor that the action was unnecessary.

OBJ unlike other ex heads of Nigerian Government who are sent on International errands, was confident enough to contest for the office of UN Secretary General. Though, he lost, that he made an attempt testified to his sense of self worth and vision.

Unlike, the Biafran Warlord, late Emeka Ojukwu, OBJ was not a silver spoon and did not go to Oxford, but his intellectualism is very much evident.

To his name are numerous books and he even has a Presidential Library.

On the flip side, OBJ like most of Nigeria's leaders is afflicted with corruption. According to Ex EFCC Boss, Nuhu Ribadu, when OBJ was building his private Presidential Library as a sitting President who called for public donation, he told him it was wrong but OBJ retorted that once out of office none of the donors would respond to his appeal. Typical OBJ, he is never wrong. He lives by his own moral code.

Unabashedly, he picks and calls out people he feels are corrupt and shames them publicly.

OBJ mindlessly pursued numerous vendetta while in office losing focus and forgetting his fixed term of office.

Perhaps, it was that realization that made him pursue the third term agenda which he vehemently denies.

All in all, OBJ an

Engineer, stands heads and shoulders above his peers.

He deserves accolades while he is around.

  1. Hummmmmmmmm!
    The best amongst his peers.

How I wish Nigeria has a leader like Nelson Mandela.

To govern is not a joke.

  2. OBJ is a Patriotic and, unequaled Head of government in the history of Nigeria. Detribalized , focused and a good manager of men and materials. As a human being, he is not perfect and can't be perfect. But So far, OBJ is the best.
