The National Assembly, the Chinese and the kidnapped train passengers

I recall what happened in 1980, when then President, Shehu Shagari

promised the Namibian Government the sum of N10m and the National Assembly queried him for it.

The lesson is that such promises are made subject to the approval of a country's parliament.

Today, the Nigerian Parliament is breaching protocol by inviting the Chinese to come rescue the kidnapped train passengers citing the Americans and how they rescued their national from a kidnappers' den in Nigeria.

The knowledge of history by the parliamentarians is good, except that they ought to be urging PMB not the Chinese.

The Legislature is to Legislate, not to lead the orchestra. The man for that job needs no introduction.

Sadly, he is not living up to billing. What could be responsible? Obviously, it can not be legislative shackles.

A word for the National Assembly: they can give PMB an ultimatum after hearing him out. Calling on the Chinese is truthfully beyond their brief. Let their charity begin from home.
