Winner takes all, takes us no where
The Government of Imo State have apologized to the Anglican Church for
the way and manner, they violated their right to peaceful worship in arresting Uche Nwosu from their church. It has been said that power is never given but taken. Uche Nwosu may be a political opponent but that in itself is not a crime.
If he can be abducted from a church where he had gone to worship, in spite of his status, then other citizens who may find themselves on the wrong side of the Government, stand the risk of faring worse.
Abuse of power is a bigger form of corruption because according to Lord Acton, 'power corrupts and absolute power, corrupts absolutely'.
We may attend the elite programs of all the ivy league universities in the world, we remain uneducated until we learn to see the rights of others as sacrosanct.
It is Uche Nwosu today. Who knows whose turn it will be tomorrow?
The man may have committed a heinous crime but for security reasons, he remains a major player in the politics of his state and deserves a measure of tact in being handled.
A state boiling cannot afford to be stoking the embers in this ember period when people are set to enjoy the comfort of their ancestral homes.
Chief Executives of states as chief security officers are continually expected to maintain peace and order and not embark on intimidation of people of divergent opinions, who in truth are not enemies but co travellers in the journey called DEMOCRACY where plurality of ideas is a plus and not a minus.
Power corrupts absolutely and then betrays the corrupted person unto ultimate rejection by the oppressed and doom for the power drunk.

ReplyDeleteWell said.
What would have happened if State Police is in operation.?
I think beyond apologies. The Nigerian Police Force should be fined/sanctioned to serve as a lesson. It is so unfortunate that the supposed law enforcement are the the law abusers.
It was abuse of power that led to #EndSars. So unfortunate lessons were not learnt.
