Emefiele a CBN Governor on cue
It is interesting how CBN Governors are appointed. Information is very key
in the Finance Industry and yet apparently, no one cares that in one deft move a player becomes an umpire. When we had the top three with significant government stakes, it was never a major issue but things have changed.
Yet, our mode of appointment remains unchanged. When OBJ picked Soludo from outside the industry, there was a sigh of relief, to be followed by hurricane.
It is interesting what SLS did. First as a royalty he was an Executive Director with UBA, followed by the topmost job at First Bank.
From there to CBN and you are surprised at what he did to his erstwhile colleagues and their businesses.
If you believed what he put out as their sins then you are free to believe anything.
Those men and women may not be clean but look at it this way.
The North not being adept at Banking were clearly not in the picture of growth in the Industry.
With SLS the more ambitious ones were slowed down. In the end an Islamic Bank is licenced and SLS smells like a million Roses.
How is the Islamic Bank performing?
The case of the present CBN Governor is another interesting story.
Here is a man managing another Banker's bank being made the apex regulator in a sensitive Industry like the Finance Industry.
What really rankled me was his response to a question during his screening at the upper legislative chamber. Like one who is used to doing things to please others without compunction, ' he said it is your call'.
Recall that SLS became to GEJ a Bull in a China shop so as if on cue, the present Governor made no pretence to any atom of Independence either of thought or action.
True to his words. I doubt if by the time he leaves Office he will be able to look his students in the face and I say, everything I did was like I taught you.
Well said elder P. So sad the core objectives of CBN has been jettisoned since Soludo left CBN.
ReplyDeleteI was shocked and embarrassed to see the present CBN closing the accounts of #EndSars promoters. The CBN went further to charged them to Courts. What a disgrace? The same CBN can't find and block the accounts of Bandits and their financiers. What a shame?
One would expect a phenomenal growth in the real sector lending, and punishment of abusers of guidelines of FX (both BDCs operators and customers). But our umpire chose otherwise. Now the exchange rate is skyrocketing. CBN can't collaborate with NPA and Nigeria Customs Service to make exports and import easy for economic growth.
We pray better days come soonest. Amen
Amen.
