Scarcity in the midst of plenty
How do we explain our situation?
We have rich vegetation. We are
choked by food inflation. We have excellent weather, we go abroad for holidays.
We go to countries where weather is an issue all year round.
In the days of slave trade, our people were forcibly taken away to foreign countries to work, without any hope of them returning.
Today, we slave to have the means to try and get selected to go abroad to work without any plan of returning to our country.
We have schools. We produce graduates but for almost everything, we depend on imports.
We have hospitals but prefer to be treated abroad, sometimes by Nigerian doctors.
How do we explain our poor performance in sports when we have excellent weather, can train all year round but are inferior to those who due to no fault of theirs train for a shorter part of the year.
Could our bickerings be responsible for our seeming cluelessness.
I am always at a loss when I try to reconcile our shortage of food with a teeming population, army of unemployed persons and excellent weather. Not discounting our legion of Universities of Agriculture.
Can we not have an oasis of sanity in this our land of mindless planlessness?
Individuals daily pray, plan but leaders of thought and action in Government work either at cross purposes or not all but wait to extort and frustrate effort and talent.
How do we get out of this morass?
If only our selfish, educated and uneducated leaders can stop this act of god fatherism and stand up to their promises at least we will be able to curb most issues of hunger and insecurities in Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteTruth be told we have good weather yet people still go abroad for holidays because we depend solely on importation,if the people in our govt can be sanitized because they themselves also travel overseas for their holidays and the youths can stop this act of bribery and corruption especially during elections and vote for the right candidate then Nigeria will move forward.

DeleteHighly knowledgeable youths, rich vegetations, excellent weather, little or non-polluted environments and many more are the convincing reasons I resist to being a slave in Europe but have not been able to maximize my potentials here as many other youths.
ReplyDeleteWe all (both leaders and followers) need a reorientation from our usual ways of life in order to build strong institutions that would make life worthy of living in Nigeria.
May God help us.
You like Obama believe in strong Institutions.
DeleteI am proud of you.
