What happened to WaZoBia?

Each time I see a Hausa man or woman in a local attire speak English, I feel that something is amiss.

It is not only the Hausas ditto for other

ethnic groups in Nigeria.

It is like going to your neighbours house not on foot but by airplane.

Imagine crossing from Kaduna to Enugu via London instead of through Otukpo.

We once in Nigeria had the idea of teaching our children their indigenous language and one other of Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba.

For the minorities, it is not about downplaying their importance but it is a matter of necessity.

On the average, I believe every minority group in Nigeria be it in the North or the South has a contiguous affinity to each of the three majority languages and in any case I believe it is better for the Bini man to reach the Yoruba man through Ibadan than through London.

So many people have suffered a lot of delays waiting to pass English at Secondary School level before proceeding to the University.

Relying more on our local languages will on the long run give us a better sense of self worth and liberate us from subservient dependence on our foreign partners.

I doubt if the Chinese would want to address their people in English. Even the Chinese, Russians and Germans would rather addtess the rest of the world in their I indegenous languages than in English.

The message is learn our language. Meet us at own turf and not at your turf.

For us Nigeians, the first criterion for measuring knowledge is proficiency in English.

This is self deprecating. Economic emancipation and better living should start and end with us in control of our destiny and not from people who see us as inferior.

By the way, how many Nigerians nay Africans believe we are not inferior to the. Caucausians?

Whether we like it or not, on that belief they keep us down because they are not superior.

Another misconception is that we are black and evil and they are white and saintly.

Really?

Who throws a human being down the drain to lighten a boat?

Admitted that we loved human sacrifice in our belief. Some of us were and are still canibals but compared to holocaust, give us our flowers.

The mind of man is wicked so says the Holy book not the mind of blacks only.

There is Evil in blacks and Whites. Know this and know your equal status with the caucausians.

When progress is measured in English, we cannot but be second. Please do so in a Nigerian language and see us soar.

The world is competitive. Like in football, scouts go round the world looking for talent to boost their teams.

Nothing stops us from scouting round the world for ideas to promote our self worth and not seeking for validation from those who will rather keep us subservient.

The key to our progress is in us, our self belief and cooperation not in aids and grants from dubious donor agencies who are spies and agents of recolonization in disguise. Think about it.
