Amaju Pinnick, please do not go to Benin by Boat
Amaju Pinnick
President, Nigerian Football Federation
Nigeria has African Cup of nations qualifiers against Benin
republic. Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick is planning taking the players by his private boat. This to me is untoward. Many of the players are coming from abroad. These players with the home based players are under contract to their employers.
I wonder if Amaju Pinnick has thought of the wider implications of traveling by boat. It is not a private trip and I wonder how safe the trip is? He says he has done it in less than two hours.
My worry is, should anything go wrong, who bears responsibility for the liabilities that would arise.
I am asking this question on the back of the incident of the Argentine player, Emiliano Sala who crashed in a private jet from France, where he had played for Nantes to transfer to Cardiff City, in UK. That incident unearthed a lot of thorny legal issues.
My take is that Amaju Pinnick, jettisons that idea in favour of commercial flight for obvious reasons. Commercial flight is time tested and a lot of progress has been made in terms of settling claims arising from air mishap.
I know that, Nigerian Football Federation is always broke, yet monies keep missing, there. The tragedy of public service in Nigeria is that like a typical police station in Nigeria, you cannot judge the worth of the personnel by the look of their offices.
If you visit a typical Nigerian Police Station to Lodge a complaint you will be told to pay for stationery, yet the policemen are living large.
When Jimmy Carter left office as US President, he was no longer a millionaire, whereas he entered office a millionaire.
The ready excuse for corrupt Nigerian office holders and their cronies is that, like Carter they were rich before their foray into public office, but unlike Carter, their worth experience exponientia growth while in office.
That may well be the case of Amaju Pinnick who owns more than one boat.
Mr President, if your Federation is broke, kindly issue them an IOU. It is not unheard of..
