Giving Christmas a bad name

To Christians, Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. That Christmas comes towards the end

of the year gives it more significance.

Under normal circumstances, the end of the year should be a time for stock taking. Having strived from January, December should be pregnant with Savings.

That is as far as normal circumstances go. I once heard of an apprentice who was to be settled and against the instructions of his master, he embarked on a journey.

On the journey, he encountered his boss on a robbery expedition. So much for planning. People want to visit the village in December but fail to prepare adequately. Instead they lie, cheat and steal to realize their objective.

That indeed is against the spirit of Christmas. It does neither Christians nor Christmas, any good.

The rate of accident on the highways also does a great disservice to Christmas.

Clearly avoidable occurrences are mystified. Tired drivers over reaching themselves. Lazy Federal Road Safety workers and poorly maintained roads all lead to tragic deaths.

For the village folks, it is a time to see loved ones from the cities. Much as this is so, it is sad that to village people is ascribed many tragic occurrences true or untrue.

Christmas is religious but it is for all. The reality of Christ should reflect in the celebrations for the sake of the celebrants and their loved ones.

Drinking and driving is senseless, serious and dangerous. It should be avoided. One can rejoice without going overboard.

Going overboard comes with Dire consequences that that give Christmas a bad name. Joy should not bring sorrow. Celebrate but make it crime free.
