In loving memory of Late Mrs Joan Olufunke Uchidiuno

 Late Mrs Joan Olufunke Uchidiuno

I liked to see her as a gentle giant. She was my Boss at Lafiaji High School. Somehow I do not suffer fools gladly so if you were my Boss, you had to earn it.

Late Mrs Olufunke Uchidiuno was a thoroughbred English teacher who had my deepest respect for many reasons.

She was smart, elderly and humble. She was Yoruba but married to to an Igbo man Patrick Uchidiuno from Ibusa in Delta State. Mr. Uchidiuno was a Managing Director of Nitel.

William Shakespeare correctly said that women grow by men. Mrs Uchidiuno was the wife of the Managing Director of a popular Federal Parastatal but it never showed in her attitude. She was as humble as she was generous.

Her generosity knew no bounds. She had six boys and was never overwhelmed. She was a disciplinarian.

Today is her post humous birthday, having died in April, 2016. I believe that today is a good day to remember a woman, who though a Yoruba, spoke Igbo language very fluently.

A woman who was very devoted to her profession, her colleagues and her students

She was also a devout member of her Church, the Ave Maria Catholic Church, Ikate, Lekki.

May her Soul and the Souls of all the Faithful departed, through the Mercy of God, Rest In Peace. Amen.

  1. Wow, I am just getting to know that this most humble woman was Yoruba. I attest to the fact that she was a great mother to all of us in Lafiaji High School and most importantly, a professional role model .
    RIP Ma.
