That Adeshina's victory be meaningful

                                 Akinwunmi Adeshina

Akinwunmi Adeshina has been reelected President of the AFDB. This is quite auspicious.

The Emelifonwu Pius Blog has nothing but good wishes for the Nigerian. The one thing Adeshina should not lose

sight of is the past misgiving by the US.

He should do well to remember this as he Presides over this important African institution for nothing will please the US more than to see him fail.

However, having won over the Board, he should go ahead boldly with his agenda so long as it is in the public Good.

In carrying out his agenda, the initial US reluctance to back him should be  a lamp unto his feet to continue to toe the path of rectitude.

He should bear in mind that the eyes of the world would be on him and the institution he represents. Africa sure can not afford to have him fail.

To know that he just won a battle against the US is instructive but his goal should be a blameless tenure which would represent winning the war.

To win the Election and get disgraced out of office would be the equivalent of winning a battle but losing the war. At the level at which he is operating that would be most disappointing and would most certainly sound a deathknell on his illustrious public career.

To all intents and purposes, Nigeria is a country that places a premium on one proving himself abroad. Not only has Adeshina done well so far abroad, his stint as Nigerian Agriculture Minister was quite commendable.

Certainly, at the top, the only way to go is down either peacefully or acrimoniously. The one option for Adeshina is a peaceful exit.
