The Dangote Refinery

The richest man in Nigeria, Aliko Dangote is today passing through an unfamiliar territory.

For a long time he had ridden roughshod

over competition. Be it rice, cement or sugar.

Recall his tiff with Otedola over Mrs. He emerged victorious.

The interesting part of Aliko Dangote is that somehow, even with his networth worsting International competition, somehow his business strategy appears only to worst Nigerians.

Remember his tryst with the Indians in respect of Noodles. He was resisted in a way, Nigerians were unable.

He tried to take his Cement trick to Tanzania and he was resisted.

Today his foes are not ordinary Nigerians but the Government.

Some may say his cup is full.

For a long time, I have watched Dangote do what sane counties would disallow from their markets.

Today his refinery is taking Nigeria and Nigerians to a new dawn.

You may have read a lot about those who are trying to frustrate Dangote in his charitable desire to crash the price of petrol.

Believe that and believe anything.

Dangote promised to crash the price of cement. Did he?

When will he crash the price of other products he produces?

The truth is that Dangote may have good qualifies but not how to compete.

Remember that Dangote is not the first individual to build a refinery in Nigeria. How come others are not as vociferous as Dangote?

The matter is simple. By size Dangote wanted to out muscle competition but sadly, he did not support APC.

What is happening is that Government is leaving Dangote to do what others do in business: fight.

Dangote is used to fighting ordinary people but facing the present Government is a new ball game.

Please do not say the government is insensitive to the good designs of Dangote.

But for a lack of transparency in our governance, the masses would have looked forward to good tidings at the end of the present, tryst. But my guess is that in the end, Dangote would be made to cut a deal.

The ideal which may not materialize is to set the same rules for all private refineries to follow. Therein lies the win for the masses.

Meanwhile, the game continues.
