Local Government Autonomy

For the Federal Government, this sounds like the song of victory but what is good for the Goose should be good for the Gander.

Nigeria has three tiers of Government. In the past the Governors were tin gods using their

position to influence events in the country.

The allocations of the local governments were jointly paired with those of the States, thus denying them of financial freedom and in a way robbing the polity of the kind of diversity in terms of political affiliatios seen in states vis a vis the Central Government.

To further weaken the hold of the States on the local governments in a way that may lead to diversity in terms of political affiliations, an end that is desirable, it is now being suggested that the central government take over the organization of local government elections.

The states won't like this and they would be right.

If states cannot organize sub state elections, then ECOWAS should be organizing state elections and the United Nations, our national elections.

What is good for the Goose should be good for the Gander.
