Another Northerner like Sanusi

As a football lover, I like the system that says, the club coach with most players in the National team gets appointed National Coach. Even in

amateur boxing, it happens.

Pray, should the same not apply in our appointments? Competent persons from oil producing states should be made to oversee our Oil Industry.

Areas with a preponderance of Tech hubs should produce a Minister of Technology.

I have to go into the above recalling a scandalous statement once made by a Nigerian Minister of Education.

In cancelling distance learning in Nigerian Universities, the Minister of Northern extraction had in restricting distance learning centres in Nigerian Universities to within 200 km of such Universities, said the proliferation of Distance Learning centres was due to the mad rush for education by Southerners. 

Can you beat that? A man whose job is to grow Education is blaming his customers for their patronage!

The reason is simple, the average Northerner believes in Boko Haram which means that western education is evil and that is why, it is so difficult to defeat Boko  Haram as an insurgent group.

Today, another Northern Minister of Education is preaching barring under 18 candidates from our universities.

What annoys me is that just like southerners were hoodwinked by SLS in his banking reforms, some people are not seeing this policy for what it is - stopping southerners in their mad rush for education.

The Minister is mentioning 6334 and 18 years but he conveniently forgets to mention how many children have graduated from technical schools that are the intendment of a shift to 6334.

I do not have a problem with making a Northerner as Minister of Agriculture or External Affairs but please not Education or Petroleum.
