Amunike, Sports Minister and NFF
Nigerian football family is a joke. George Weah became the President of Liberia on the back of his services to
Liberia.Sadio Mane is doing a lot for his people.
What do we know about Nigerian footballers?
They flaunt their wealth. I do not begrudge them.
Are they lacking in education? I do not know if George Weah and Sadio Mane are more educated than they are.
Truth be told, Nigerian footballers are like Nigerian Policemen.
In the Police college, recruits suffer all forms of privation before graduating.
Indeed, from training, they learn extortion and oppression.
Kylian Mbappe spoke about how Cameroonian authorities demanded for bribe from his father, for him to represent, Cameroon.
The same applies to Nigeria but I won't be surprised if the same applies to Liberia and Senegal but in spite of that, George Weah and Sadio Mane still spent their money for their countries.
Mikel Obi spent his money on the 2016 Rio Olympics, Nigerian football team. That is the way to go.
Those who run our football, are non starters.
They want to hire a foreign Coach without a plan on how to pay him. They hire a local Coach and he turns a football agent to cater to his needs.
What beats me hollow, is that our ex footballers have so far failed to fashion out a blue print for our football.
It is disheartening. All they do is make themselves available to be used by politicians.
Veteran, Nigerian sports writer Mumuni Alao, was once asked if he preferred a foreign coach to a local coach and his response was that whoever was employed should be given a contract and the contract respected.
Our ex footballers and football lovers should put heads together and rescue our football from odium.
It is not a crime to employ a foreign coach but it is a crime to employ a coach foreign or local without a means of payment.
We need a blueprint. It is not beyond us.
NFF want to employ a foreign coach without letting the sports Minister in on how they would pay the Coach. The Minister being a politician wants a local coach. This to him is probably politically correct.
The solution is to set standards and means of attaining them. Whoever qualifies let him get the job.
For now the system is too opaque to be productive.
