The way forward, beyond lamentation.

Very often, it is said that doing the same things over and over again and expecting a different result is akin to insanity.

Things are not what they should be in

Nigeria and we never tire of complaining.

What then shall we do that we haven't done before?

Today, we have a new Democracy that is slightly different from what we had and it is getting worse.

We all expect and want things to be better but by our own choices, it is getting worse.

In the days of yore, Awo and Zik, were seen as the problems of Nigeria for the simple reason that Igbos loved Zik and Yourubas loved Awo.

At that time, it was believed that tribalism would die with them. They died but tribalism has since multiplied in leaps and bounds.

It has become dangerously suffocating to the point that whereas, in the days of Zik and Awo, people from other ethnic groups who supported them, were termed renegades.

Today, it has changed radically. What we now have is turn by turn and this is where it defies Democracy, at least as enshrined in our Constitution.

What we have in our Constitution is Party Democracy but what we now see is turn by turn.

In this turn by turn, Democracy, we have the sitting President run affairs of the state as he likes to the joy of his ethnic group without input from other members of the party.

In this our Democracy, the party is powerless and lacks vitality or power to punish members without the courts giving conflicting and confusing judgements.

It even gets worse when a new President comes in and throws accusing fingers at his predecessor even where they are of the same party.

It goes to buttress the point that it is an ethnic Democracy and not party Democracy.

The norm is for the party to be people of like minds.

Being of like minds of the same constitution, their affairs are tailored towards carrying out their programs for the good of the state.

Furthermore, the party leaders guide and direct the party.

Even where a sitting President becomes party leader, it still does not make him a despot above the party.

However, today all the party organs are paralysed.

Labour Party had a good outing at the 2023 Elections but the party organs are weak and wobbling.

Now is the time for the party to reorganize for future governance or they would be as bad as the others.
