Free float, free fall

I don't believe our government wants to float the Naira.

Please float not the Naira. No country

in the world can afford such an absurdity.

It is said that perception is everything. As far back as the 90s, I was made to believe that Nigeria was a country where everyone is looking for a slice before a collapse. In other words, there was no hope.

With such a mindset, you cannot float your currency, lest you play into the hands of foreigners and local currency speculators.

China deliberately, devalues her currency because it knows that the US among others have production plants in China and so made in China goods will appear cheap to the world.

This practice hurts the US and they are complaining.

In respect of Nigeria, we depend on imports and so devaluation will further set us back.

In the absence of hope, what is there to export but ourselves?

This explains the Japa phenomenon. I was discussing with a friend's brother who wants to send his children abroad.

We agreed that Nigeria was our country and that we should be part of the solution and not turn tail and flee.

In all the hardship occasioned by misrule, the politicians and their families are thriving and others are voting with their feet against their country. Sad.
