Federal Character in Amnesty

Any time, I remember, the history of limited liability, I ask myself, when such a brainwave will occur among our law makers?

During the Industrial revolution as

the story goes, there were several ideas, with many failing and some flourishing giving room for more trials.

People were making money. Remember, the parable of the talents. Some have entrepreneurial talents, some have the funds and so it continued.

People were going into partnerships with money rolling in.

The snag was that for those not making money but losses, the inactive or sleeping partners who were not part of operations, were getting discouraged from investing in the ideas of the entrepreneurs.

Looking at it, critically, the sleeping partners, smile at the profits but needed protection in the case of losses.

To stop people from slowing down the wheel of the industrial revolution, the idea of limited liability was birthed.

Thus, in the case of business failure or a loss, the inactive partner loses just his contribution, no more.

Today, in Nigeria, we had kidnapping in the Oil rich Niger Delta, where outsiders, side with IOCs to exploit the riches of the region.

To bring peace and progress, the militants were granted amnesty.

In the mineral rich, north of Nigeria, banditry is going on, disrupting agriculture and peace.

The best the politicians, there, can do is ask for amnesty. How ingenious?

The sad aspect, is that, whereas, disturbances in the Niger Delta, were disrupting flow of income to the coffers of the Nigerian government, disturbance in the north, hurts personal incomes.

Northern lives are lost and the bandits make a lot of money even killing security forces, north and south.

Now, the northern amnesty, where should the money come from?

Of course, Niger Delta. Our mumu don do!

Northerners mine, minerals, make the money exclusive of the national treasury and demand funds from the national treasury to fund amnesty to rehabilitate the foot soldiers of the criminal war lords.

What a warped way of thinking. Compared with the thinking behind the principle of limited liability, isn't this insane?

  1. My Oga, this our country is strange. The oils of the Niger Delta are for the Country while the gold in Zamfara is for Zamfara. Now we should use the Federal income to fund the amnesty in the North West. Fairness demands a change of focus . "He who goes to equity must go with clean hands".
