Tinubu's cart before the horse

Lest we set a bad precedent. The question mark on Tinubu is not whether, he is competent?

How many people would not mind that a potential house help cannot be trusted with the finances of the house?

No, it is about probity. Like PMB before

him, he failed the first test.

PMB had no certificate. The question is whether it showed in his style of governance? Of course, it did.

Next, like Tinubu, PMB shunned debates. Did he show contempt for the people? Yes, he did.

So many questions on Tinubu, which he has failed to answer.

Those are red flags which we failed to consider in the case of PMB. Today, we are the worse for it.

What is happening now is an attempt to hoodwink the public.

The constitution did not say, judge a President based on initial performance but based on qualification for the job as  judged by the electorate.

Peter Obi wowed the electorate and they voted overwhelmingly for him.

What was the magic?

His sterling records.

Tinubu on the other hand was more particular about why it is his turn without letting the people know that he needs their votes and they alone can make him President and no other way.

Tinubu told his people that Power was never given but that they should snatch it.

That is where we are.

Is Tinubu qualified?

There is a saying that you do not hire someone you cannot fire.

In hiring, should the thought of firing come in? Yes.

That is why there are provisions for impeachment in the constitution.

However, impeachment is only a last resort and like firing, can be painful. That is why recruitment has to be thorough.

Tinubu like PMB dodged a vital part of the recruitment process.

How many Interviews did Tinubu grant, both local and International?

Was he born Bola? I know a male colleague who is Bola, but much more females than males bear that name.

There are many questions and no attempt at addressing them.

People say he is corrupt. They say he prefers selection to election in practising his politics.

Those are the questions to address not populist acts with a questionable mandate.

Lest we forget, in Lagos State he was and still, is, all in all.

He sacked his two deputies and is above the Law, brooking no opposition.

Comparing him with Obi, who was impeached and was brought back by the courts, who is more amenable to correction and therefore safer to hire?

In the US, a gentleman who ran his state competently was rejected by the Americans for the simple reason that he hardly wears a smile. That is the power of the electorate.

I was a fan of PMB but he turned out a monumental disappointment.

Tinubu is competent but he is above the law and should be made to believe that power lies with the people and not in his wiles and wealth.

Once he shows that the power to hire lies with the people without coercion, then he has passed the first test to genuine leadership, until then, by judging him now, we are making a mistake.

  1. My Oga, they say that the taste of the pudding is in the eating, these initial steps are not palatable but his people are praising him beyond the heavens forgetting that we have 4 years and a president that even starts well came change, what matters is antecedent, even military governments are known to show initial signs of working for the people before showing their real colours. We can only wish and pray that the good Lord will be on our side.
