M A Obagun of Onward Paper Mill

 A good name is better than riches. News just surfaced of the death of a man, whose name I never heard before.

Why then am I excited not about his

death, even if, he died at 91, but about his legacy.

A rich legacy indeed. Not emilokan. Not do or die politics. Not Hope 93.

It is the founder of Onward Paper Mill. I used it in primary School. I believe my maternal grandfather bought it for my mother.

It had been in existence since 1953. Those who are stealing and cheating should take note.

Mandela has a rich and enduring legacy. Obama too.

In Lagos, Jakande this and Jakande that. I doubt if he was a noise maker.

People called him little Awolowo but for his association with Abacha.

It may have affected his standing with some people but his legacies live on.

Jakande this, Jakande that. The monuments hardly bear his name but the people know. We know.

A good name is better than riches. For the founder of FCMB, a legacy of many expensive cars.

Onward paper mill. I know, the founder though dead, lives on with me and all those who have had the good fortune of using his Onward paper.
