Medical tourism and Nigeria

Nigerian Doctors cannot travel abroad immediately after their subsidized training. That bill is in the works.

Some people like it, some do not like it.

My take is on medical tourism. There

was a time, foreigners were assessing our hospitals.

Today, our people are going to India.

If our doctors cannot go abroad at will, let our politicians go to Nigerian hospitals too.

This way, fear will make the government to equip our hospitals and enhance the expertise of our medical practitioners.

If our doctors should not go abroad at will, politicians should seek treatment at home.

In so doing the level of our medical practice will rise to the level of our highly remunerated politicians and thereby attract foreigners once again.

People say, Nigerian doctors get subsidized training. The question is with cheap equipment how do you give expensive training?

With low salaries for government consultants, how do they give expensive lessons?

The truth is that our education is cheap because we give low budget education: poorly paid teachers in overcrowded rooms and poor equipment.

Making government officials assess our facilities with government money makes sense, instead of fouling the air at home and going abroad for fresh air. How unpatriotic!
