Hurricane Wike (2)
Nyesom Wike, Barrister and Governor has made good his threat to demolish Bayelsa State's property in Port
Harcourt, the Rivers State, Capital, where he is Governor. When the Bayelsa State Government received the notice of demolition, they sought protection from the Law.
The Governor of Bayelsa State was a Senator before becoming Governor.
He is not a lawyer but a teacher. He is not married to a judge but to a nurse.
While what is going on may tell on the people of Bayelsa and Rivers State, let me quickly refer to a previous Bayelsa vs Rivers State issue.
GEJ's wife Patience is from Rivers State. GEJ is from Bayelsa State. When Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi was Governor of Rivers State, he made a statement about demolition like most Governors are wont to do, and Patience Jonathan challenged him, not in court but in public at a function.
While majority would see what is at play as politics, some people would still queue behind their governors. This is unhealthy.
Wike and Douye Diri of Bayelsa State are in the same Party, but Douye does not belong to G- 5 and this must be chewing up Wike.
I believe many will not like what is going on. Politics must be played according to rules.
Bayelsa and Rivers States were one but now two different states. Basically, two opinions should be expected based on their different needs.
Edo and Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom are like Rivers and Bayelsa and they do not always go the same way.
Edo was APC before becoming PDP. While Edo was Obidient, Delta went with Atiku as their Governor was Atiku's running mate.
Cross River was PDP and now APC. Akwa Ibom is still PDP.
All States are equal and I do not think, any state would like to be seen as less in importance and status as another.
Wike should have a rethink and retrace his steps before he causes a conflagration.
So sad a development.
