Count down to the 2023 Elections
As Elections come, this election to my mind is the most important Election in the life of Nigeria.
It is a defining election. A party came in a swash buckling way, sweeping all
opposition on its way.Even the members described their party as the largest in Africa and boasted that they will rule Nigeria for fifty years.
They were the party of the establishment and therefore was conservative. Their morals was low and discipline lax.
In no time, there was an implosion. Interestingly, among the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria, one sees politics as it's forte on the other extreme is the one that sees it as a business and the one that is either here or there.
With the implosion of the largest party came a calculating megalomaniac who midwifed an apposition party full of rhetorics.
Their rhethorics gave them poower and the people, from the bargain, got insecurity and disappointment.
Today but for the Labour Party, the choice would have been between the talkers and the boasters with no hope in sight.
Today, the Labour Party is the party to beat. Just like PMB was the poster boy of the talking party, Peter Obi is the poster boy of the Labour Party.
With a glistering past full of obstacles but a clean record, Peter Obi comes with promises.
Many are wont to dismiss him having been disappointed with PMB. His die hard supporters are hopeful.
Nigerians have no choice but to believe he would be different for the talking Party promised change and took our fortunes South, now Nigerians are the ones seriously in need of change and change they are resolved to work for.
Shall we get it? February 25 is just days away.
Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm. Your write-up is apt. The 25 Feb 2023 election, to say the least will show Nigerians the way. Whether to continue with the journey back to Egypt or trace their way into the promise land. Incidentally, the change people are really the ones that whipped up the electoral awareness of the citizens. Having seen the level of nepotism and negativity that came with the regime, Nigerians seemed to have vowed that never again will such happen if the country is to be one indivisible, united and strong.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the major issues presently are the level of fake news, blackmail, the employment of ill gotten money to hoodwink the people. You must have heard of the seat at home decreed by some renegades residing abroad to the South Easterners for them not to come out for elections. This, they must obey because no one to protect them. Within this period, thousands of PVC were discovered dumped in the bush while the supervising establishment kept on posting the innocent potential voters.
All these were targeted on a particular contestant by the hawks with their collaborators from the South East. Things would have been better to test a new and neutral comer but the hawks with their desperation will not allow. So, Las Las, everyone will eat breakfast on our way back to Egypt. Regrettably though.
