Nigeria's Parliament of looters
The Frenchman who propounded the theory of Separation of Powers must be wondering if he did not make a mistake.
Lord Montesqui's raison d'etre for
Separation of Powers is not just about Financial Independence as practised by Nigerian Legislators but a situation of Independent thought and action for the good of the polity not for the pocket of the politicians. In Nigeria, Separation of Powers especially as it concerns our Legislators, starts and ends with their pocket.
Imagine Legislators inserting Severance package for all Senators and House Members in the 2023 Budget.
Whereas, the Legislators are supposed to look out for the people while the people look up to them, in Nigeria, it is a different ball game.
The people look up to the Legislators for crumbs. They hail those that give and deride those that don't.
Nothing is ever heard or seen about the quality of representation.
I have been living in Etiosa for more than a decade. I have never had any contact, knowingly or accidentally with any of the representatives there.
Yet, for representing me for four years they would get severance package.
How sad!
I appreciate your courage in putting these together.
ReplyDeleteFor things to get better in Africa (most importantly Nigeria). We the people must awake. The executives and the legislators arms have long time ago been too selfish in allocating resources. We the citizens must arise. Using the civil societies and pressure group to drive policies that we want.
Once again thank you for publishing this. Compliment of the season to everyone.
Same to you
