Like Obi, like BAT

The News of Akin Osuntokun replacing Doyin Okupe as Campaign DG of the

Labour Party has left me wondering if Peter Obi is not like BAT?

Doyin Okupe who was replaced by Osuntokun was an ally of Obj.

When Obj was President, he had a tryst with BAT as Governor of Lagos State, over the creation of new local governments.

Since then, there has been no love lost between both men.

In the South East, daily, Peter Obi is being embarrassed by people who should align with him.

In the South West, Afenifere is backing Peter Obi and not BAT.

Somehow, this leaves Atiku as a man of his people.

When the chips are down, the average northerner would rather go with a fellow northerner than anyone else.

However, the North may not really be as homogenous as it seems to be.

The christians are there. The only problem with the christians could be a lack of motivation to vote.

They may not believe that their votes would count.

All in all, all Southerners do not have to vote according to regional affiliation but based on what the candidates are bringing to the table.

Same applies to Northerners too.

I recall an incident when I was in secondary school and late Shehu Musa Yar'Adua as second in command to Obj had announced Local Government reforms and elections were going on into the Local governments.

My English Language teacher, who was a Political Science graduate was contesting against a candidate from my step - grandmother's home town.

My teacher, Mr. Okiya was a gentleman and I tried to sell his candidacy to my grand mum.

She told me, the Spirits of her hometown would be angry with her, should she fail to vote for the candidate from her hometown and I felt deeply disappointed and speechless.

Do not be surprised such views still reign today. Our emancipation would only come from the spirit of #EndSARS.

That is the spirit of OTOGE not OTOPE.
