A tale of three CBN Governors
Chukwuma Soludo came to office as a Macro Economist talking big and acting big.
He moved the capital base of Nigerian
commercial banks from N2bn to N25b. He let the world know that he was foisting the Malaysian banking model on Nigeria. All entreaties to reconsider the decision fell on deaf ears. He said he wanted Nigerian banks to be big and get into big ticket transactions
Many banks had to merge and new banks emerged. Soludo had the backing of OBJ.
After Soludo came Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the risk Manager. He sanctioned a lot of banks and many big banks went under, with their owners facing the Law for many infractions.
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, did not enjoy a Presidential backing like Soludo did but instead he worked with the opposition. Strange isn't it?
Well, Bukola Saraki got him the job and later Saraki fell out with GEJ.
After Sanusi Lamido Sanusi came Godwin Emefiele with his Zenith Bank background.
Today, Emefiele is redesigning the Naira. PMB claimed to be in support.
For now he is facing pressure from quarters unclear.
Soludo like Clement Isong moved from CBN governor to State Governor.
Sanusi moved from CBN Governor to Emir of Kano. He has since been deposed.
It is instructive to note that none of the two CBN Governors before Emefiele, tried to run for political office as CBN Governors.
Perhaps with the experience of Sanusi in mind, Emefiele came into office not wanting to ruffle feathers and unlike his two previous predecessors did not hold any strong views.
That could perhaps have been responsible for his present predicament in the hands of the Department of State Security.
Emefiele was listed shockingly as one of the aspirants who bought ruling APC's Presidential Nomination forms at N100 million each. He later claimed unknown persons bought the form for him.
He did not say, he was not interested in the contest nor the Office.
When he was asked to resign and go and participate in the contest, he remained in office.
As things stand now, he has eaten the sour grapes of politics and his teeth are on edge.
This is lesson for future CBN Governors.
Yes o.
ReplyDeleteOnly God will help us in Nigeria. So that our practice of lawlessness will be abated.
We all know the critical roles CBN plays during election.
In my view, what the CBN govenor did is like CJN coming out to contest an election.
Sad
DeleteNigeria as a Nation pray for a messiah. Not just that every citizens should desire for her restoration. Indeed it should be the duty of everyone of her citizen to desire to be be in politics to rescue Nigeria from the fall. I will not condemned Emefiele intention to run for the position of the president of our country if he can do the needful and bring back our Nation. If He is involved in crime let us prove it and sanction him. If He is not guilty I see no wrong for him desiring to be the president.
