Should we be happy that Nigerians are winning elections abroad?

Charity they say begins from home. Success they also say has many fathers but failure is an orphan.

When people of Nigerian descent win elections or achieve, abroad, we usually feel excited and feel good about

ourselves.

However, I wonder if we ever consider what these achievers think of Nigeria or whether they consider themselves as Nigerians?

The truth is that they don't. The best we can do if we love Nigeria is to say, if they can succeed abroad, then we have the manpower to succeed at home.

With that in mind, it then behoves us to find the missing piece in the jigsaw.

Until we find it, whatever successes, Nigerians or those of Nigerian descent achieve abroad will continue to be attributed to the host countries and not to Nigeria.

The only gain for us is to be treated as a recruiting ground.

I recall that in my days as an undergraduate, there were foreigners in my school.

The challenge before us is to turn our country into a land of vast opportunities for Nigerians and foreigners alike.

Should that happen, Nigerians abroad would have positive feelings about the land of their birth and feel the need to be part of her history and development otherwise it would continue to be tales of woe.

You know that failure is an orphan should for us not be an option.
