Rescuing ASUU from ASUU

It is incontestable that incessant ASUU strikes do our Educational System no good. Interestingly, ASUU strikes are about to accentuate the dichotomy

between University graduates and Polytechnic Graduates.

When two elephants fight it is the grass that suffers.

The strikes are about our kids and our future.

ASUU members send their children where? Where do Government officials send their children?

There is now a logjam. Where lies the solution?

We have to take a look at the underlying issues.

Firstly, there is insufficient funding for Education.

Secondly, Government takes a fancy in establishing schools without adequate plans on funding such schools.

The result is discontent and complaints leading to strikes.

Having known the root cause of the problem, we can then attempt a solution.

Firstly, there is a need for improved funding.

Secondly, the existing model for funding has to change.

Thirdly, the new model has to come from both the academia, private sector and Government.

In the interim, Government has to meet AsUU halfway until the new model is put in place.

Interestingly, there will be no reinventing of the wheel, models in South Africa and other similar countries can be looked at and rejigged to meet out peculiarities.

Any sacrifice made for our kids is an investment in our future. This problem deserves every attention it can get lest we endanger our future.
