Kudos to Nigerian Bar Association
It was Mario Puzo (1920 - 1999) who said that the future belongs to Lawyers. One thing I
find fascinating about Lawyers is their boldness. In Nigeria, Lawyers have always been in the forefront in speaking truth to authority.
Growing up Law, Medicine, Accounting and Engineering were the leading courses. The Nigerian Medical Association used to be very powerful but sadly, it is no more so. So too was Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.
Today, the Nigerian Bar Association is leading the way in our quest for the way forward politically.
In their Conference of this year, they extended an invitation to the gladiators in our coming Presidential Election. That was very commendable of them.
That the candidates turned up is a testament to the regard that the Nigerian Bar Association as a body commands.
They should keep it up.
Sadly current studies have Law as one of the Courses that would go into irrelevance. I do not doubt this but until then, Law remains a bulwark for the Defence of rights and protection against extortion.
