The choices before us

In 1999 choosing between Obj and Olu Falae was like choosing between a

Yoruba choice: Olu Falae and their choice, that is other Nigerians and notably Northerners, not Igbos: Obj.

In 20007, it was a choice between Obj's man and the opposition represented by Atiku who had fallen out with his Boss, Obj, who had wanted a third term.

In 2011, it was between GEJ and a crusading PMB. Who would have known what was on the way for Nigeria and Nigerians?

In 2015, it was between GEJ and the allied forces with PMB as the mascot.

What were the issues?

Corruption and insecurity vs a saint and a retired General. There were fears of religious bigotry but they were drowned by cries of cluelessness.

In 2019, it was between a missing certificate from PMB and a non Nigerian in Atiku.

Today, what are the issues?

Igbo Presidency. They are not ready. Peter Obi has no structure. Atiku is corrupt. BAT is fake, ill and old.

Somehow, it is  who has a scorecard?

In other climes it would have been a choice anchored in alternative policies on how to get Nigeria going.

How do we tackle insecurity? How do we tame corruption? How do we overcome lack of sufficient power!

A look in the mirror and we are not there. At 61 that is where we are.

Peter Obi is the candidate to beat. I am happy to read that Labour should not vote for Peter Obi because he is a capitalist  it is just that the alternative offer is Sowore but when will he start campaigning? For as far as I am concerned, he is not among the popular contenders but at least it is more like it.

Politics should be based on issues not sentiments anchored on the trivial and elementary like missing certificates and place of origin.

So far only Peter Obi appears to be giving a ray of hope. It would have been better to have another Obi who will give us a choice between China and US. Solar energy vs Wind energy. Oil dependence versus reliance on new knowledge and export of IT sophistry.

Like the Chinese would say, a journey of a thousand Miles begins with the first step. Let us start with Obi and along the line, other Obis with scorecards to show would emerge from the ranks of Local Government Chairmen or Governors or Legislaors

Certainly that is the way to go.
