YCE can do better
Obj was sworn in twice as Nigerian
President. He is from the South West.GEJ was sworn in twice as President of Nigeria. He is from the South South.
At this stage of our Political development, it is politically correct to practice zoning and in many places it is happening.
However, two notable Political gladiators feel it has to be now or never and they are shifting the goal post.
BAT and Atiku.
From the South West came the view that the Igbos had their turn in OBJ.
Interestingly, they did not know in 1999 but only at the advent of 2023. Sad.
Next Atiku does not believe in zoning when his party clearly has it in its constitution.
Afenifere, the socio Political Yoruba group have endorsed Igbo Presidency. Yoruba Council of Elders say the Igbos cannot be President because in 1959, Zik aligned with the North instead of with Awolowo.
Sad Indeed. It smacks of amnesia that of all events of the past, that is their sole justification.
Between 1959 and today, there is clearly no difference to the elders.
Well it is their opinion and they are entitled to it except that it is not sufficient a reason to do the wrong thing by ignoring a time tested convention on the altar of selfishness. This is sincerely speaking unexpected of an August body like the YCE that ought to know better.
Honestly I really do not know how long all these elders will continue to put youths at disadvantage with their backlogs of issues of the past. May be, each region should have a party and a candidate each for election going forward. If a Yoruba voter prefers the candidate from another region, so be it and so on. I'm just tired of what's happening on this 2023 election matter. I pray it does not lead to serious crisis eventually.
