FCT Minister should resign!

Nigeria at 61 is on the journey of self

discovery in a rapidly changing world.

Every effort should be deployed in bringing Nigeria up.

The FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello is clearly not the kind of person to serve at such a high level in Nigeria's Federal Capital.

I had to look up the Minister's profile and was surprised that he has a Master's Degree in his resume.

My opinion is hinged on a statement credited to him which I know must by now be generating a lot of concern in diplomatic circles in the FCT.

Our Minister told security agencies that anyone who turns up to bail arrested criminals should be arrested as a way of ridding the FCT of criminals.

To illustrate the weakness and danger of the Minister's thinking, I give a story from George Bernard Shaw.

Bernard Shaw was never shy of letting everyone know about his ugly looks. One day, a very fine lady brought a marriage proposal to Bernard Shaw who shot it down for its one-sidedness. The lady sweetened the proposal by telling the writer that their union could result in a baby with her looks and his brains.

Bernard Shaw then responded that what if the baby turns up with his looks and her brains?

The Minister clearly does not understand that criminals serve jail terms but it is only accused persons who are eligible for bail.

Until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction, they remain suspects and entitled to legal representation.

The Minister should be told that it is better a guilty person goes free than for an innocent man to be jailed.

In these days of lawlessness, it is very easy for innocent people to be clamped into cells awaiting trial.

His views are too ancient to be tolerated. He should resign.

  1. Exactly the point. They knew what they're doing. Pretentiousness. Even the man accused of 80b + 90b naira heists have been granted bail by his accusers. Well, I do not know whether the man is a thief or criminal and if his household should be arrested and charge along with him.
