Why Nigeria's Modular refineries are dormant
Can you believe that Nigeria's Modular refineries are not refining crude oil? Oil
is in the Niger Delta.Niger Deltans are refining oil, while the Federal Government owned refineries are guzzling money in the name of Turn Around Maintenance and yet PMS is daily imported at a highly subsidized rate.
Meanwhile, the refineries of the Niger Delta bare branded illegal.
The Government of the day promised modular refineries with limited capacity to take care of local refining.
While the Government is yet to deliver on that promise, Niger Deltans have built modular refineries but they cannot refine crude oil.
Do not be surprised. It is Nigeria and Government magic.
NNPC says their price will be too high for the market.
Government needs advice and they would get it.
Part of the money spent on subsidizing Imported PMS should be spent on subsidizing local production.
Perhaps Government need to be reminded that our local refineries are promoting employment and keeping them in business is more beneficial to our economy than subsidizing Imported PMS, that would keep foreigners in employment.
Governor Wike and his fellow Niger Delta Governors should wade into the matter to save local refineries from inactivity at a time when Dangote refinery is yet to commence production.
This is an hidden agenda among Nigerians. The Government of the day is corrupt and are menace to Nigerian society. I knew this for long. They make believe that we can't refine in Nigeria. As soon we start helping ourselves to fight this hidden agenda, nothing will change.
