Nigeria's world cup ouster
Yes, Nigeria would not be at the world
cup, 2022 and so are many other countries. In 1994, Nigeria went to the World Cup for the first time and lost to Italy in the second round due to inexperience.
At that time some people were of the view that , that loss would afford us the opportunity to fix our political challenges, then under General Sani Abacha.
Honestly, I felt those who held that view were myopic but, today with Nigeria's inexplicable loss, I feel the same way.
2023 is around the corner and the mistakes of the past should not be repeated.
My love for sports has not diminished but having a responsive Government is more desirable than mere sports glory.
Prowess in the field of sports is commendable and respectable but it has neither made Kenya nor Jamaica a world power economically. Japan and India are not world powers in sports but they do provide for their people and that is the ultimate by all standards.
Fixing our politics can and would place us in a better pedestal to reap the rich fruits of our sports talents.
A clueless corrupt government will always taint our sports.
Let us seek first good governance and other things would follow.
Don't cry for me Argentina!
ReplyDeleteThe cry would have been for Nigeria Nigerian!
But do I feel any disappointment over our loss to our traditional foe and very envious neighbour? No!!
This happened for us to be clear eyed and sober.
We try always to paper over and whitewash our vexing and troubling problems, but like the ostrich the rump of our odourific stench can't be hidden for ever.
Nigeria and Nigerian patriots must take this dismal and shameful outing as a nunc demiti, a call for duty...a clarion call for action!!!
It is no no longer a deja vous, refrain but a grand and definitive call for action.
Nigeria restructures now or implode....this is the desderatum.
Wow. Thank you
