When in a hole, how do you come out?

 

To all intents and purposes, we Nigerians have found ourselves in a

hole. How do we come out?

Certainly, not by digging deeper. But that is exactly what we are doing.

We sent the colonialists packing and replaced them, not in developing our environment but in exploiting our nation.

Remember, Religion was not the raison d'etre for colonialism but Economic exploitation.

Having replaced the colonialists, we are also using their modus operandi. Any surprise that we send our loots overseas? They ship our wealth abroad. We replace them and continue shipping our loot abroad.

Are we cursed?

We replaced them or rather, our leaders replaced them not out of love for our people but out of envy.

All the perks of the colonialists like Government Reserved Area and paid overseas leave, we have retained.

Surprisingly, we find our finances in a precarious situation from our ill advised imitation and we run abroad for advice from the same people we chased away for exploitation. We do not stop there, we also borrow from them to sustain our reckless life style that promotes foreign tourism while hoping that foreigners would help develop our tourist sites. How ignoble?

When in a hole, you do not dig deeper but find a way to come out.

By our lifestyle, we are digging deeper. By sending our children abroad to study rather than develop our education, we are digging deeper.

How do we come out?
