Onitsha port concessioning: another Government Magic

N50 billion in 30 years, that is the deal the Federal Government is talking

about.

The same amount and terms of the Lekki Epe Expressway. In the voice of Falz the Bahd Guy, I say well done Sir.

It reminds me of the ritual of the budget of the Nigerian Customs Service which they exceed everything, like the record breaking of Russian pole vaulter Sergey Bubka.

Onitsha in South East Nigeria holds too much promise that a paltry N1.7b would be the target per year by the Federal Government.

We are used to lies but this one is very difficult to believe.

In good conscience, the deal should as a matter of urgency be revisited. It reminds me of a story I heard from the dark days of port congestion in Nigeria and the auctioning of containers.

A man approached then transport Minister Umaru Dikko for help and Dikko in turn gave the man an allocation paper for a random container.

Disappointed that he got paper instead of money from the Minister, the man went about complaining and a smart Alec, gave the man N10,000 for a container with a going price of N100,000.

Nigeria need money as our debt is mind boggling but it is not enough to go for unsavoury deals.

This deal is dead on arrival and should be quickly replaced.
