Have you heard the News?

Due apology to Jimmy Cliff for the use

of the above Headline.

I like originality but I just couldn't resist using the same headline that Jimmy Cliff used to title one of his songs.

That this story is curious made me use the headline.

UK is to compensate Nigeria for Fraud in our Oil and Gas sector. According to the report, a British firm, AFWEL used a corrupt agent in Oil deal in Nigeria, so the Serious Fraud Office of the UK is telling us.

The story gets more interesting when you delve into the contents of the MOU in respect of the amount involved and legal requirements on the use of the funds for projects in Nigeria.

The amount involved is N118m and the MOU entered into between our Attorney General and the British Minister for Africa specifies that the money is to be used for three projects: 2nd Niger Bridge, Lagos Ibadan Expressway and Kano Abuja Road.

If you think, this is a joke, then consider the following:

Sir Francis Drake a confirmed Pirate was Knighted by the Queen.

Our own River Niger was discovered by Mungo Park, for us and the rest of the World.

So which is more curious, UK admitting Fraud or using N118m for projects that that amount cannot scratch?

Was it not Boris Johnson that told PMB that Nigeria was fantastically corrupt? If you think the joke is on the UK, then you have to look deeper to know the details of the dirty business.

  1. Stranger than fiction.

When I first read this I was puzzled.
Not because the amount was negligent but the drive or if you like the implicit intention of British malevolence.

Certainly a Greek Gift must, like a Horse, be looked in the Mouth.
