Adieu Brown Ebewele

The death has been announced of controversial athlete, Coach and

Administrator, Brown Ebewele.

I first encountered Brown in Benin City in 1977 during the Bendel State Sports Festival preparatory to Kaduna 77.

I saw him have a Tiff with another controversial Sports personality, the enigmatic George Hassan, the footballer.

Since then I have been able to follow the career of the man that was labelled the JUJU man.

Brown Ebewele was no flippant fellow. He loved to call a spade a spade. He brooked no nonsense.

As an athlete, he took part in Hammer and Decathlon.

As a coach, he was successful and loved by his athletes.

I guess, his success laced with big talk earned him the sobriquet ' The JUJU Man'.

Brown was a man of words and action. He started his career in Lagos State and went on to compete, Coach and run sports in Edo and Delta States.

That he rose to become a commissioner for sports is a testament to his sagacity in spite of his controversial nature.

He would be sorely missed by the sports community where his image loomed larger than life.
