UK have started phasing out Private Car ownership. When are we following?

For reasons not unrelated to the

environment, the government of the United Kingdom, have started giving their citizens, transport credit in exchange for their cars, to be crushed.

This effort is in a bid to limit carbon emission.

I know our government knows about carbon emission and global warming. But the question is how far will our government be willing to go and when will they commence? This year, next year or never?

It involves planning. It entails sacrifice.

The first sacrifice is to perish the thought of car ownership as a life long achievement and substituting that with a desire to change the environment. The next thing to do is to upgrade public transportation to a level of more convenience.

This plan worldwide will not eliminate private car ownership totally. Rather it will further make it difficult to acquire.

For developing countries, it could raise the status of car ownership to the level of acquiring private jets.

I know the rich will like it. Anything to differentiate them from the rest. So be it. Let the extra income go to the government for the upgrade of public transportation.

Doing that could make the people more dependent on government and ip so facto more understanding and critical of government efforts. Unlike today where the tendency is less government and less patriotism as everyone is a mini local government providing everything from water to education and leisure.

  1. It is possible the UK government is doing this to reduce the number of vehicles on the road.

Technology will soon introduce vehicles that is powered with water. The vehicle manufacturer will want to stay in business, employ engineers, pay taxes etc.

We want our government to be responsible and do one single the well. At the moment the cost of public debt is not commensurate with the infrastructural development.
The cost of inefficiency of the present national assembly is not quantifiable. As no one can control the unending borrowing appetite of the executive arm of government.

God bless our dear county Nigeria.

  2. I doubt whether the Nigerian government or even Nigerians themselves will buy such idea. Remember that here, we are ruled by so much ego and everyone to prove to be a big man. In such a circumstance, it will be difficult for the people to give up their larger-than-life lifestyles for any reason
