Vice President, Yemi Osibajo and the Collapsed Ikoyi Property

Lagos State thrives on Internally Generated revenue. Lagos is

surrounded by water and bustling with Economic activities and a teeming population.

Before the discovery of Oil in Lagos State, leading figures in Lagos State had declared that land was their Oil.

There is a template in Lagos State for the settlement of land disputes. The state gets a slice. For collapsed building, the state revokes ownership and takes over the land.

The Ikoyi collapsed luxury building is being linked to the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In a condolence message to the victims of the incident, he has refuted the allegation.

I am just curious. The incident happened on the 1st and the message is coming out on the 5th. Perhaps, it was awaiting clearance.

Nigeria is a serious case of maladministration and rat race by people in and out of Government.

My take on the collapsed building is that many people in and out of Government are involved.

The Vice President may after all be innocent but Nigeria's type of business model where individuals front for Government functionaries is very difficult to place.

When the private sector gets away with blue murder, it is because the driver is driving the policeman's car, so how can the police, police his own car in the interest of the public?

He who pays the piper dictates the tune but in this case the piper knows the payer but the payer is powerless against the piper, who wears the toga of a masquerade.

The construction company handling the collapsed building may be owned by many powerful people but the records may not reveal these persons.

In the end Justice suffers. I recall the case of a condemned Military Governor, who wrote a letter in his language to his wife about the 9million Naira that he buried.

That was a case of concealment. It is pervasive. It is borne of a desire to appear clean when indeed the functionary is a cesspit of crime.

Government officials must make up their minds to pursue service and not money. Pursuing both is fraught with landmines like the Ikoyi collapsed building.

May those involved be exposed especially those linking the innocent.
