Lagos State and Capsizing Boats

I once lost a friend to the perilous

waters of the Niger Delta. Death is inevitable but some deaths are quite avoidable like suicide.

When faulty contraptions are used as a means of mass transit then we are tending towards murder.

When Nigerians wonder why Niger Delta people ask for money when all they have to show for their rich allocations is wanton display of corruption, I tend to disagree.

My bone of contention is that they should be given their due whichever way they choose to spend it. That is not to say that I support corruption but Justice. If it is theirs give them then advise them or criticize them.

I am.quite unhappy that in spite of the huge allocations at their disposal, they have not thought it fit to modernize their water transportation.

Lagos State is the centre of excellence. I am unhappy with the spate of incidents of Capsizing Boats in Lagos.

I know the boats are privately owned but Government can and should as a matter of urgency ensure strict compliance with best practices.

The waterways should be cleared of weeds. Where necessary, Government can assist the transporters with modern and safer boats on hire purchase in conjunction with the Banks.

The prospects in water transportation are too enormous to be treated with levity. Lives matter and should be cared for the best way possible on the waterways of Lagos and the Niger Delta.

  1. Absolutely sir. We are yet to explore that part of transportation means. The challenge is that we don't want to recognize the fact that different means are available and best-fit for different purposes; and where one is lacking, it overstretches the other. Although they talk about it often times, there seems to be no action all the time. Talk is cheap! That's one of the causes of dangers to our motor road because of heavy weight loads conveyed by motor road.

  2. The plan b for this means of transportation is not solid, we still have a long way to build this process. We are still developing in this area.
