I hope Buba Marwa was misquoted
I can't believe this. That Oyo and Lagos State are the worst in terms of Drug
abuse in Nigeria. This coming from a Politician should by all means be taken with a pinch of salt.
For those who, like me believe in rotational Presidency, Buba Marwa a Fulani is a strong contender for the North East Presidential slot.
It is believed that the South East and North East are yet to taste the Presidential Pie.
My support is for confidence building believing at this stage in our Political history, we can do with it and then proceed to a level of having one President and six Vice Presidents. This is not original to me. I am only rehashing it. Among it's merits is the anti dote to the problem of suden death by a President and the Vice President from another Zone taking over. In this case, should death occur, automatically, the Vice President from the President's zone takes over.
Back to Buba Marwa, I believe the powers that be deliberately asked him to by that statement ruffle feathers of Lagosians and the people of Oyo State.
Lagos I may believe because of its rate of growth but believe me, the rate of cigarette smoking in Lagos State is surprisingly low and possibly by extension drug abuse too. Oyo State, I cannot wrap my finger round it too.
Buba Marwa rose to national prominence from Lagos State, as Governor.
He is credited with introducing Tricycle into Public transportation in Lagos State. In fact, some people still identify Tricycles as Marwa in Lagos. Further more, he really did a lot to make Lagos safe from the menace of Armed robbery.
I believe making such a statement against the people of Lagos could be a way of proving his loyalty to the powers that be and not to Lagosians. Oyo could also be for the same reason.
It is important to prove himself against Lagosians because his major competition in the North East , Turakin, has the unwanted baggage of also being more welcome in the South especially, South West than the North East.
This may be a long short but you never know with Politicians.
While I stand to be corrected, I doubt if I am the only one who feels the Fulani man from Adamawa could be mistaken in his outlandish claim.
Good morning elder P.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agreed with your view.
In addition, I believe time will tell. If Lagos and Oyo State are the highest consumers or traders in drugs, time will surely tell. I would like to see a strong regional economy system in Nigeria.
Some nations have legalized drugs (heaven did not fall in those nations) and a member of our national assembly submitted a bill for consideration (if my memory servers me well). Buba Marwa is making a statement may be to distract or "troy stone".
Thank you sir.
Thank you very much my erudite and analytical accountant cum Economist.
