Can ASUU walk the talk?

Academic Staff Union of Universities , ASUU, have asked the National

Assembly to stop Government officials from sending their children abroad for schooling.

And I ask if the National Assembly members and ASUU officials will be immune to the same order?

The Law makers are as guilty as ASUU but who will cast the first stone?

What I suspect in the regular ASUU strike is a similitude of the Aburi declaration of Ojukwu, where Ojukwu hoodwinked Gowon into an unfavorable agreement.

If indeed it was an agreement, why did Gowon renege? It was an agreement, but Gowon had no authority.

I believe years later at Warwick University where Gowon studied Political Science, he must have realized that his agreement with Ojukwu could have come with a proviso that it was subject to ratification. So I was taught at UNN.

Back to ASUU I believe that while ASUU goes to battle, it has to be a battle with the Government with it's first Eleven, Government will willy - nilly go with it's Federal character contraption and get worsted by ASUU. Meanwhile, while ASUU, will be glorying in the deal, the Government team on the other hand will believe that like other documents, this too will be easily forgotten.

Therein lies the Crux of the matter. But then do ASUU members believe in their agreements?

Beyond that do children of ASUU members school abroad? The average ones may not but I believe some do especially the crooked ones.

The problem of University Education in Nigeria is from funding such that everyone is involved. But cutting corners is not restricted to only one person. Until everyone owns up to his or her responsibility, we shall continue to go round in circles.

  1. ....in circles for how long sir?
Sir, looking at the development of our country.

How can we grow (develop) when in the past 10 years Nigeria Electricity generation has been +/- 5000 MW?

Sir, is Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG) saying anything?

  2. Alot of things are wrong with this country, the government and the people are chameleons, especially in this present one, chasing shadows in the name of fight of corruption, the Senate are just in the upper chamber with others, making and accenting to millions of laws without implementation.
ASSU,has lost their relevance, they only want us to hear their voice.
