What does Boko Haram mean?

A state does not have to have a single culture, but if one culture is just

incompatible with another, then something has to give.

For a long time, it has been an open secret that Southern Nigeria has a culture that is antithetical to that of Northern Nigeria.

National Youth Service Corps has done a lot but the mutual dislike remains. Not even Inter ethnic marriage has been able to bridge this yawning gap.

Boko Haram has a revulsion for Western Education. The South does everything to get it.

The North too craves it but not as much as the South.

That Boko Haram is getting stronger and not weaker is a testament to the degree of distaste the North has for Western Education.

A state government closes down all schools due to the activities of kidnappers. Interestingly Zamfara state is in northern Nigeria, where the fight against terror is domiciled and dragging.

Closing down schools in the face of credible threat to the safety of pupils makes sense but methinks, that is exactly what Boko Haram stands for and that tantamount to playing into the hands of Boko Haram.

But who cares? Certainly not the people in power.
